Vet Consultations

Whenever your pet is ill or in pain, you want a quick diagnosis and effective treatment. Our experienced vets will examine your pet thoroughly and, if required, may carry out further tests. These may be in-house tests, such as blood tests or x-rays, but sometimes may require samples to be sent away for analysis.  Once a diagnosis has been reached, the vet will discuss with you the best or most effective treatment for your pet, and then explain to you the course of treatment and what to expect. If required, you will be given a follow-up appointment, so the vet can check on the progress of your pet. More complicated cases may require referral to a specialist, and we will arrange this as quickly as possible for you.

We always have on-the-day appointments for urgent cases, and for emergencies, will try to see your pet as quickly as possible.

Once your pet has received their primary vaccinations, we recommend yearly boosters to prevent your pet contracting some of the commonest infectious diseases. We will send you a yearly reminder that your pet's vaccination is due.  At your vaccination appointment, the vet will give your pet a full health check, including a check of your pet's weight, eyes, ears, skin, heart and lungs. This health check is important so that we can pick up any problems early.

Most pet owners will be familiar with the dreaded parasites, and we have a range of products specifically designed to prevent them becoming too familiar with your pet!  Flea treatments are easy to use, either in spot-on form which protects for 4 weeks, or a tablet for dogs which is effective for 12 weeks. If you are unlucky enough to see fleas on your pet, you should treat your home as well, and we have products designed to rid your home of them too.

As well as fleas and ticks, worms are a big problem and it is important that you worm your pet regularly. We have a variety of ways to give your pet wormer, from tablets and granules, to prescription only spot-on medications for cats, especially good if you find tablets a problem.

Any of our staff can provide you with wormers or flea treatments, however some prescription medications can only be dispensed by a vet.

Every year in the UK, thousands of animals are lost, stolen, or simply stray. Even if your cat is never outside, or your dog is always on the lead, there is a possibility of escape. While a collar and tag with your contact details on it is great, collars can be lost. If your pet has a microchip, this is permanent and can be scanned if your pet is found, allowing you to be quickly reunited.

Microchips are small, approximately the size of a grain of rice, and are implanted under the skin of your pet in a quick, relatively painless injection. This is often done at your pet's second vaccination, but can be done at any time by appointment with the nurse or vet.

Routine surgery for neutering, dental work and other non-urgent conditions is carried out Mondays to Fridays, however in a medical emergency, surgery can be carried out at any time.

For a routine procedure, your pet is given an appointment with the nurse for early morning (usually between 8:30 and 9:30) where they will be admitted. Surgery is usually carried out throughout the morning, and your pet will be ready to go home in the late afternoon, when you will be given another appointment with the nurse to collect your pet, and be given any medication or post-op instructions you need. Obviously, any emergency surgery will have priority over routine matters.

Vet Monica Wallace holds a Certificate in Small Animal Surgery and performs more complex surgery, however occasionally very complicated cases may be referred to a specialist.

Many of our clients have pets who are on long term medication. It is a legal requirement that pets we supply prescription medication to are 'under our care'. To fulfil this requirement, we must give these pets a repeat prescription check at least every 6 months. At this appointment, your pet will get a  full check over, to ensure that the dose and medication is still right for your pet. Any blood tests or other necessary tests will be carried out. We will let you know when your pet is due a repeat prescription check, and it is important that you make an appointment, as we will not be able to continue prescribing their medication until the check has been carried out.
